De Bellis Antiquitatis - Antipatros Army

I have some friends that play quite a bit of De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA).  I was interested in the game so decided to get an army and paint it up.  I can't turn away a new project.

For those of you that don't know, DBA uses 15mm armies fighting on 2' x 2' battlefields.  Each army has 12 units.  Each army is based upon an actual historical force.  You get command points based on a d6 roll each turn.  Grouped units can move together, but you only get as many actions as you have pips on the die.  I have only played a few games and need to get more in to fully grasp the rules.  Tactics completely elude me at this point.

I found a cheap army at the Recruits convention in Lee's Summit, MO.  It is II 18(a) Macedonian Early Successor - Antipatros.  15mm models paint up well in my opinion.  There is some detail, but not so much that you have to spend days on each model.  As always, my goal is a decent tabletop standard.  These are not show pieces and won't win any painting competitions, but they look good on the table.

Below are my photos of the army.

Knight General on the left and cavalry on the right.

Elephant

Auxilia

Psiloi

Pike less the pikes.  They will be added tomorrow.

The army as a whole.
I am very happy with how these turned out.  I will be talking to my friend Ryan to find a time to really learn the rules for this game.  Hopefully in the next month or so.   I still need a base/camp/built up area, but I'm not sure what to use for that.

Have you played this game?  What is your favorite DBA army?

  2. Awesome! Looking good! I strongly suggest adding the pikes...they didn't fair that well with backup blades! ---Ryan
