Carl found his way to my paint table and I managed to get him done and as part of the black and white edition of The Walking Dead: All Out War.
I continue to use my simple process for this model. Base colors, wash, and then highlights. I'm not going to win any painting contests, but the models look pretty decent on the table.

Patrick visited my painting table recently and is now ready to head out to collect some supplies and thrash some walkers.
I continue with my simple but effective painting style. This is a pretty good way to paint models if you are interested in getting models to the table quickly. I think it would be pretty forgiving for a new painter as well.
Just a few more models and I'll be done with the core box.

I was able to convince my friend John to join me in a game of The Walking Dead: All Out War. This is my first competitive game. The game mechanics are essentially the same as for a solo game, but there is much more to worry about with the addition of a force or hostile survivors that you must contend with instead of just the undead walkers.
We played the basic scenario out of the core box. There are 9 supply tokens placed on the board and the first side to hold 7 tokens in an end phase is the winner. If the game ends due to threat being too high, then then the player with the most tokens is declared the winner.
We had a good time and I think we got most of the rules correct. I look forward to playing more games and hope they go as well as this game did.
This game completes my plays for this game for my 6 x 6 game challenge. I will continue to work on models for this game and play more games, but I will be shifting gears and working on getting some other games played.
Derek was the next model to hit my painting table.
I continue to use my simple, but effective process of applying base colors, washing the model with Nuln Oil, and then highlighting with the base colors.
It is a pretty quick painting process, and the results look reasonable.

I sticking to my simple process. Block in base colors (greys and black), then wash with Nuln Oil, and finally, highlight using the base colors.

I'm a fan of simple. As you've probably heard me say before; my goal is always a nice table top standard. I'm not going to win any awards, but my models look good enough on the table-top.

I played my 4th game of The Walking Dead: All Out War for my 6 X 6 Game Challenge. This battle was the first scenario from the Days Gone Bye expansion.
I think I got most of the rules correct this time around, but there is a chance that I missed some. Please let me know if you see anything I missed.
I didn't have the suggested models painted, so I decided to use alternative choices. I went with Sandra and Derek for this game.
In this scenario, the player is trying to cross from one corner of the board to the opposite corner and wants to break into a munitions store.
It started out well, but the threat got a little out of hand fairly quickly.
My OLDER sister is a big fan of The Walking Dead. For her birthday, I decided I would get her a copy of the board game from Mantic Games and paint it up for her. Because she likes the comic so much (she also likes the TV show), I decided I would paint the models to match the comic and only use black, white, and greys.
Follow along as I share the process.
First up, I painted the walkers. Nothing to exciting with these as I just used different grey shades and then washed the models with Nuln Oil.
I have one big tip for anyone that wants to paint their models in this style. Be sure you don't paint any similar shades next to each other. Keep the contrast clear by using a dark grey next to a light grey. This makes each piece of clothing or the skin from blending in with each other.
Next up was Rick. I used the same process for Rick, but decided that I would be highlighting the survivor models so that they stand out a little better. I'm also painting the ring around the survivor's bases white so they stand out a little better on the table top.
For the highlight, I just used the same color as I used as the base color (before the Nuln Oil wash) and just picked out the high points. I don't actually do a lot of highlighting on my models, but think it worked well with this.

Next up for my 6 x 6 Game Challenge is another play through of The Walking Dead: All Out War. This is the third and final scenario in the Prelude to Woodbury expansion. As I was editing the video, I found a few mistakes that were made during the game. I noted the mistakes in the video.
In this scenario, Brian is now in charge of Woodbury and is out collecting walkers for future arena battles. Brian needs to capture 4 walkers and load them into his vehicle.
The scenarios dictate the equipment you start with in all the scenarios. I think a little different selection of equipment would improve my chances of successfully completing these missions. Maybe when I replay them, I'll mix up the equipment.
I've played another game of The Walking Dead: All Out War for my 6 X 6 Game Challenge. This is the second scenario from the Prelude to Woodbury Expansion. I feel more comfortable with the rules now that I've played a couple of games, but I did forget to roll for panic when the threat got high and I could be missing a few other things.
In this scenario Brian is out collecting supplies and needs to collect all five tokens on the table and then move off the board. I managed to pick up 3 tokens before the threat got so high that I lost the game.
I've not played enough to have any solid tactics, but I've got some ideas to try the next time I play this scenario.
The Walking Dead: All Out War game comes with cardboard tokens for all the terrain features. I want to have something a little more dynamic to go along with all my painted models. 3D terrain will add a new level of detail to the game and add to the appearance.
I dug around in my bits box and assembled a few pieces from some scrap wood. I painted the various items up and glued them to some bases. I now have several barricades that I can use in my games.
A little work and you can really improve the look of the game and add to the experience.
I picked up the Prelude to Woodbury expansion for The Walking Dead: All Out War game published by Mantic Games.
This expansion gives you a more fleshed out solo rule set to play the game and looks at the Governor's history before he became the Governor. This box set is actually a stand alone game that comes with an abbreviated rule book, so you can play the game without purchasing the core box. You get Brian, 5 walkers, dice, tokens, and everything else you need to play the game.
I wanted to get Brian painted so I could use him as I play through the scenarios in the rule book. I used my simple technique of base colors and then an appropriate wash and he turned out pretty well.
I'm not going to win any painting contests, but he was finished quickly and looks nice on the tabletop.
Here you can see the difference between the base colors only and the washes being applied. A wash goes a long way to add depth and shading to a basic paint job and in my opinion is a great tool for any painter.
Next up for my 6 X 6 Game Challenge is The Walking Dead: All Out War. I've played this solo using the Prelude to Woodbury expansion. My first play was fun and it is helpful for learning the rules of the game.
This scenario sees Brian, before he becomes the governor out looking for some supplies. He just needs to search the three supply tokens to win the scenario.
We will be following Brian for the next few games and we will see what his future holds.
Derek is the last model from the core box of The Walking Dead: All Out War to hit my paint table.
Derek is an interesting model and painted up as quickly as the rest. He is a little shiny in the pictures, but that will be taken care of after I dull coat the model.
My goal with these models was to show how nice a simple paint job could look. Don't be afraid to paint your models. Even a simple paint job can look nice and will add to the game play experience. I will guarantee* that if you set this game up at your local shop and have all painted models for the game, that people will stop and watch, ask questions, and may even ask to join in.
I have several of the expansions so I'm guessing I will paint some or all of those at some point as well.
Liam is next up to be painted. He isn't the toughest guy around and is really just a low pointed model that can take an activation and hopefully draw away from walkers from your real fighters.
All that said, he was still a fun model to paint and turned out well.
I'm very close to done with the models from the base game. Let me know in the comments if you want to see me continue painting some of the expansions or if I should move onto a different project.
Next, we have the young one from the survivor group; Carl. This kid is tough though a bit creepy and maybe even a little cold blooded. Not someone you should mess with when the world has fallen apart.
I'm still happy with my painting scheme for these models and I'm think they fit the theme well.
If you've got this game, don't be scared to put some paint on these models. It will make your game look a lot better and will draw more attention from any spectators.
Next up, the iconic Rick. Everyone knows who Rick is. He is the leader of the survivors, who rules with bloodthirsty cruelty, or does what it takes to keep his people going. Depends on your perspective.
Another fun model to paint and another decent looking model for my table.
I've still got more models to paint so keep an eye out for more additions to the crew.
I wanted to base up my walkers in a consistent way so they have a unified look. I decided to base them up so they looked like they were walking down a road.
When I painted them, I put a solid coat of anthracite grey over the base. The next step was to cut some strips of blue tape so I could get nice straight edges. I stuck the strips down and painted a bit of white onto the base. For the yellow stripes, I put a coat of yellow over the white.
In the end, these turned out very nice. They do look a little like they are all walking down the middle of the road together, but I'm okay with that.

I have continued with my simple paint job. The model got a grey primer, then base colors blocked in. After that, I went with washes on different parts of the model that compliment the base color.
Patrick will have a blue hoody and brown pants. He will get a grassy base just like all the other survivors.
Another model ready for battle with walkers and just trying to survive in a world that has gone to sh!t.
Its time to work on the survivors and Sandra is first on the list.
I'm sticking to my simple paint scheme, but instead of washing the whole model with Agrax Earthshade (like I've done with all the zombies) I will be using different washes on the survivors to make them stand out a bit more and give them a bit more character than the shambling hordes.
Sandra is getting a grey jacket, brown pants and a blue shirt. I've also based her up so she looks like she is standing in a yard. I will base all the survivors in a similar way so that they stand out on the table and you can easily tell the difference between walkers and survivors.
I am very happy with how Sandra has turned out and look forward to painting more of the survivors.
