Painting Stompas from Games Workshop

Epic Warhammer 40,000 holds a special place in my heart.  The models are fantastic and the scale allows you to play truly "epic" battles.

With the new release of Adeptus Titanicus from Games Workshop, I decided I need to dust off some of my old models and paint a few things up.  The new edition uses a different scale and currently only has Imperial forces (loyal and traitor), but I figure I can use my old models and make some adjustments to use Orks and Eldar as well.  I will probably just use the rules as written and substitute some appropriate Ork (or Eldar) models for the battle.

First up in this project were a few Stompas that could serve as knights in Adeptus Titanicus.  These can also just be used as themselves in my existing Ork army that I can use for Epic 40k, LaserStorm, Future War Commander, Horizon Wars, or any other game I decided to use them with.

Army Showcase - Epic 40K Space Marines

I've always been a fan of Epic Warhammer 40,000.  The models are great and you can play massive games in this scale without losing the ability to maneuver.

I've got a fair amount of models painted for my Space Marine army and after watching an army showcase video on a fellow YouTuber's channel, I thought I would show off my army.

Tale of an Epic Gamer December 2015 - Utterly Failed the Goal

The month of December has come and gone and I failed to paint any thing toward the Tale of an Epic Gamer project.  Those that read my blog will know this is because of a recent house purchase, but I still kind of felt like I blew my goal.  However, after sitting down and pulling out my Orks (the army that would have been on my paint table in December) to take some photos of all the models, I decided that I still put together a reasonable force.

I ended up with a painted force with lots of models that wouldn't really make a legal army for NetEpic Gold.  However, with some additions to my ranks of infantry, I will be able to use more of the vehicles.  This is a good sized army for NetEA, though.

Below are a few shots of the models that I painted up for this army during the year.  I like the look of the Bad Moons, but need to add in units from other clans per the NetEpic Gold army lists.

Tale of an Epic Gamer - November 2015 Goal Completed

I know this is a little late, but the purchase of a new house and the ensuing renovation has killed my painting time.

However, before I got started on the house projects, I did finish my November goal, I just never got around to taking pictures of the completed models.

Well, I finally found some time and set up the models for a photo shoot.

Imperial Guard were the subject of my work in November and below you can see my handy work.

I painted a full Abhuman Company... in this case Beastmen.

I also painted a full company of Leman Russ Tanks.

Finally, I painted up 2 squadrons of Sentinels.

Not a bad collection to add to what I had previously painted.

The Imperial Guard are my smallest Epic force (points wise) that I painted this year.  I like the look of the army and look forward to adding more tanks and some artillery units.  There will also be more infantry added including some of the various specialist infantry options.

Tale of an Epic Gamer - November 2015

My goal for November is to finish my Imperial Guard.

My goal for this army this month is to paint an Abhuman Company, finish off the Leman Russ Company that I previously started, and 2 squadrons of Sentinels.

I've already made good progress toward the goal this month and I'm confident that I can complete it.  I might even be able to get a few other items done if I make good use of my time.

Tale of an Epic Gamer - October 2015 Goal Completed

Another month of painting is in the books.

I finished off my Tyranids for the year.  I would have liked to get a few more models finished, but I'm still happy with what I did get done.

While not as many points as my Eldar force, This is a pretty decent sized force given that I only spent 3 months painting it.

I will be back to this army in the future and have plans to add lots more to the swarm.  More monstrous creatures are the current need, but more infantry will be added as well.

Overall, I think the army looks great and look forward to seeing these on a battlefield.

Bugs! - Swarms for various games

I recently read a post on a forum about a game recreating the Whiskey Outpost battle from Starship Troopers.  The game was played using the LaserStorm rules that I've made a few posts about.

I have always loved Starship Troopers.  Both book and movie have different places in my heart, but both have their own merits.  To keep the yelling to a minimum, yes, the book is much better.

Anyway, after reading that post and a few other comments in other places, I thought I would put together some stuff so I could play some Starship Trooper themed games.  I have Space Marines that will serve as the Mobile Infantry in 6mm games.  I could use Genestealers and Hormogaunts as the arachnids, but kind of wanted something a little different.

So in comes my ants.  

These started out as poker chips and little white ants.

I picked the ants up last Halloween at a dollar store.  They come in bags of about a hundred for $1.  I painted the ants black and then added a dusting of orange spray paint to add a little color.  I may do different colors to break the army up, or I might use the same color throughout.  Thoughts?

The bases are just cheap plastic poker chips that I picked up at Walmart some time ago.  I used some caulk to attache a bit of model railroad ballast (grit) for texture and then added a bit of flock to the base.

To attach the ants I mixed up some JB Weld (maybe a bit of overkill) and put a little on a couple of feet from each model and them stuck them to the base to dry.

One of the great things about these is that they will work for a variety of scales:  6mm, 15mm 28mm.  They will also work for a number of different game systems.

I have completed my goal for September and this was my last month working on the Eldar for 2015.

I finished another company of Guardians and Falcons to go with them, some Wave Serpents, Fire Prisms, Fire Storms, and some War Walkers.  Another productive month is under my belt.

I will be back to these in the not too distant future.  I want to flesh out my aspect warrior units and add in some vibro cannons/support weapon platforms.  I also look forward to adding some flyers, super heavies, and titans to the mix at some point.

For now, I'm am happy to have made such great progress and am very happy with how the army looks.

Andrayadas from Dark Realm Miniatures

I picked up some Dark Realm miniatures at a convention recently.

I plan to use the Andrayadas as Necron proxies for my Epic 40k games.

Here is my first go at painting these guys.

Very basic paint jobs but they look nice.

Tale of an Epic Gamer - September 2014

This month, my goal is to "finish" my Eldar army.  While I will still add to the army, I am going to be finishing my work on them for the Tale of an Epic Gamer 2015 project.

I've made good progress so far.  I hope to finish off all these models and paint up a couple Wave Serpents.  I might also paint an Avatar, but that will depend on how quickly I get these done.

When I'm finished I plan to post pictures of the whole Eldar army.  Stay tuned.

I managed to complete a fairly large chunk this month.  I set myself a bit of a large goal and wasn't sure I would get it all done.  Besides adding a few of the Tyranid monsters that are basically tanks and artillery units, I also finish 45 stands of infantry.
